MESSAGE FROM THE VICE PRESIDENT
Dear Fellow Colleagues and esteemed participants,
It is with great pleasure and excitement that I extend a warm welcome to all of you to the Philippine Urological Association Annual Convention 2023. As the overall chair of this significant event, I am truly honored to have the opportunity to organize and lead this year’s annual congress.
This year, our convention carries the theme, “Less Travelled Path”, which aims to shed light on the unexplored aspects of urological care, research and surgical innovation. It is our objective to encourage groundbreaking ideas, challenge conventional methods, and explore new approaches that will redefine the future of urology.
The scientific committee headed by Dr. Joseph Mark Abalajon had prepared a diverse range of pre congress workshops and live surgeries , scientific sessions, and compelling debates that cover various aspects and subspecialties of urology organized as ONE PUA.
The scientific committee also invited international speakers giving the opportunities for the members to engage with international experts, exchange ideas and establish collaboration and networking.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the following: our esteemed speakers for their time and expertise in sharing their invaluable knowledge; our pharma sponsors, partners and exhibitors for the unwavering support to make this convention a grand success, and to the all the committees involved, my sincerest gratitude and appreciation for your exceptional job in organizing this year’s annual convention.
And to all the participants, I encourage you to actively participate. It is through collaboration and the exchange of ideas that we can collectively shape the future of urological care.
Once again, may I extend my warmest welcome and invite you to this Annual Convention and take the less travelled path towards innovative urological care.
Wishing you a successful and enriching PUA Annual Convention 2023!
Juvido P. Agatep Jr., M.D., FPUA
Vice President
Philippine Urological Association 2023
MESSAGE FROM THE SCIENTIFIC CHAIR
Greetings! It is with great pride and honor that I welcome you to this year’s Philippine Urological Association Annual Convention: Paths Less Travelled. Kicking off the pre-congress events will be the annual UroLap competition as well as a HoLEP/RIRS workshop for those interested in Endourology. The celebration continues with the annual SEA-UREP and ESUT workshops featuring esteemed speakers from the EAU Sections Office. For the first time in our history, experts from The Society of Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgeons – American Urological Association will conduct an outreach mission (November 21-22) for the indigent reconstructive urology patients in the country. An estimated total of 20 patients will undergo surgeries such as complex urethral reconstruction, gender-affirming surgery, and flap surgeries for acquired adult buried penis.
The first day of the convention proper will feature debates pitting standard techniques against the alternative options. This is in concordance with the overall theme of the convention which tackles not only novel surgical techniques but also those that have been with us for quite some time but are not being utilized regularly by our local urologists. This year’s meeting will also feature the first ever PUA Chapters’ Lecture as well as the PUA Young Academic Urologists Lecture (PUA YAU). We believe that the different PUA chapters should have a spot in the plenary as regional practices may differ from one another and each chapter will always have something to share with the rest of the PUA. For 2023, the Bicol Chapter has come forward to share their experience with all of us. As for the YAU lecture, we have invited the immediate-past president of the Philippine Urological Residents Association (PURA). The 2nd and 3rd days of the convention will again feature sessions of the different subspecialty societies featuring speakers who specialize in “alternative” techniques. As always, we will end the whole convention with the Fellowship Night and the much-anticipated Mr. and Ms. Urology Pageant.
I would like to express my gratitude to the whole scientific committee for putting up this incredible program. In no particular order, I would like to say thank you to Drs. Eli Paul Madrona (PUA President), Juvido Agatep Jr. (Overall Convention Chair), Marie Carmela Lapitan, Michael Eufemio Macalalag, Rosito Bascuña Jr., Vincent Malonzo, Rudolfo de Guzman, Raphael Arada, Patrick Joseph Matias, Mark Benson Gamo, Freddie Sy, James Claveria, Godofredo Gasa, Ma. Kristine Flores-Camacho, and Bryan Geoffrey Arce. With this, I hope to see you at the Grand Hyatt BGC. Mabuhay PUA!Sincerely,
Mark Joseph J. Abalajon, MD, FPUA

2023 PUA Annual Convention
MESSAGE FROM THE FAUA SECRETARY GENERAL
It is my great honor to welcome everyone to the Federation of ASEAN Urological Associations (FAUA) Annual Meeting in conjunction with the 65th PUA Annual Convention. This will be our first annual scientific meeting since 2019 and would be a worthwhile restart despite all the difficulties in conducting this yearly activity. We have prepared a lean but mean FAUA session and SEA-UREP in collaboration with the PUA, EAU and EAU-PH which will be worth your time and indulgence.
We wholeheartedly thank all the national association members for the support as we strive to maintain our filiations and stay true to the goals and aspirations of the Federation. In line with this, the FAUA Executive Council is finalizing the amendments to the original FAUA MOU which was created in 1993. This much needed amendment will officially include all the ASEAN National Urology Associations aside from the original 5 members and aims to strengthen the objectives and leadership structure in order to fortify our position in the region.
SALAMAT! We look forward to a stronger and more relevant FAUA in the coming years.
